Inputs Anthelmintics
Anthelmintics
Helminths or worm parasites present a challenge for organic livestock farmers. Anthelmintic drugs are the most frequently used drugs in organic small ruminant production.
Resistance to anthelmintics (up to 95% in sheep and goats and 60% in cattle and horses) and their impact on the environment causes major problems.
To scale strategies to replace anthelmintics, SCALE-it will:
- Upscale and refine feeding strategies (bioactive plant extracts and grazing management) to reduce the use of anthelmintics in small ruminants.
- Support the registration of a biocontrol agent (fungus strain) through a tolerance study and refining strategies to reduce anthelmintic use in ruminants
